]]> If you’re looking to experience the Dutch herring-eating experience, now is most definitely the season in which to do it.

Vlaggetjesdag (or Flag Day) happens every year in June, and traditionally celebrates the first herring catch of the year (known as Hollandse Nieuwe). This year the start of the herring season was officially postponed by week, owing to the apparently poor catch of herring that was on offer.
